Music Hall at Fair Park
The Music Hall at Fair Park is one of the busiest theatres and halls in Texas. The place hosts more than 1,200 events every year. These events include musicals, concerts, festivals, seminars and even sporting events. The place has a special place in the heart of Texas and provides such recreational value that is unparalleled. We all know Everything is Bigger in Texas, this couldn't be truer for the Music Hall at Fair Park.
The hall was opened on October 10, 1925. Back in the day, it was operated by Dallas Opera from 1957 - 2009 till a change of ownership occurred. It is currently owned by the Dallas Summer Musicals that conducts most of the Broadway events that take place here. The building boasts of a Spanish Baroque style with Moorish architectural influences. Not only is a state-of-the-art structure, it is just a fabulous piece of architecture. Don't miss out on Cirque du Soleil shows when it comes through Dallas.
The size and grandeur of the building is what makes this hall a formidable one on a National scale. People from all over the States look to get a few hours in this venue. That's why there are always some sort of musicals or professional events taking place here.
Earlier in the 40s, the place was just your average theatre, but great changes took place that. Air conditioning was added in 1954, which is obviously a great upgrade. In 1972, the theatre was expanded a lot to incorporate a few extra things that the audience would highly appreciate. This includes a walk-in lobby and a restaurant called the Crystal Terrace. This project also expanded the dressing rooms and prep areas. Other improvements were made in the acoustics and the seats were replaced with a lot more comfortable ones. In 1999, the whole theatre was re-carpeted and repainted. There was a gift store placed in the hall along with a guest relations center.
Parking in the Music Hall is free and is given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Other than the general parking, there's an added place for parking in the Parry Avenue Lot directly across the theatre. There's also a handicap parking right next to the theatre. Valet Parking is also an option with an extra $25 but valet might not be available for each event.
There isn't a particular dress code for the theatre but Dallas Summer Musicals would really prefer if you came in a business attire. People usually attend the events in casuals especially on the weekends.
