History and Ownership
Previously known as the RKO Pantages Theatre, the Hollywood Pantages Theatre is a legendary theatre that was designed by the renowned architect B. Marcus Priteca. The theatre was Alexander Pantages’ last theatre construction. The theatre was constructed on vaudeville and officially opened on the 4th of June, 1930. It was also part of the Pantages Theatre Circuit. For the theatre’s first two years, first run movies were programmed to alternately run through the day alongside vaudeville acts.
The Pantages Theatre Hollywood was greatly affected by the Great Depression and like most of the other theatres, they were pushed into cutting the costs of operation. This lead to the theatre operating as a movie theatre. However, it occasionally hosted live entertainment.

What are the best seats inside Hollywood Pantages Theatre?
In the year 1932, Alexander Pantages sold the theatre to Fox West Coast Theatres. It was later on acquired by Howard Hughes in 1949 for his RKO Theatre Circuit. After the acquisition, Hughes turned the second floor of the building into his personal offices. Between the years 1949 and 1959, The Pantages Theatre Hollywood hosted the annual Academy Awards Ceremonies for the American Motion Picture Industry. The theatre grew popular and was a major venue for exciting events especially roadshow movies well into the ‘70s. Pacific Theatres assumed operations of the theatre in 1965.
In January of 1977, The Pantages Theatre was shutdown to be reopened a month later with the stage production Bubbling Brown Sugar. The theatre is currently operated by Nederlander Organization’s arm and has risen to become one of the most renowned theatres in Los Angeles. It has hosted numerous prominent events such as Broadway Musicals like the celebrated Disney’s The Lion King. The musical was hosted in the theatre for more than two years. Another notable Broadway Musical that was hosted at the theatre is Wicked.
Renovations and Style
Over the years, the Pantages Theatre has received a number of face uplifts and rejuvenation procedures that have really contributed to its elegance. Retail stores and a new W Hotel have recently been added to the theatre. In the year 2000, the theatre received a $10 million upgrade and restoration. Almost the entire theatre was repainted, the missing chandeliers replaced, the outer lobby restored and the walls refurbished. Initially, the plans for the Pantages Theatre was that it be constructed into a 12-story building with two floors for the theatre and the remaining 10 for office space. The 1929 Stock Market Crash however led to the halting of the construction. Plans to complete the construction were revealed in 2007 but were not completed.

Restaurants Near Hollywood Pantages Theatre
Located in Hollywood Boulevard, the Pantages Theatre is one of the greatest spectacles of Los Angeles. The theatre has more than a few reasons why it's so famous and one of that would be its architect. Previously known as the RKO Pantages Theatre, the structure was designed by vaudeville impresario Alexander Pantages and it was the last theatre he ever built. While the Pantages Theatre is notorious for its exclusive Broadway shows airing some of the best plays mankind has ever made, there is a small aspect of the venue that is often neglected, the restaurants around it. In our opinion, the stuff around the venue is what makes a venue what it is. Instead of ending the memorable night with a pizza at home, folks can end it in an unforgettable fashion by dining at the finest restaurants and bars Los Angeles has to offer.
The Pantages Theatre has hosted such Broadway marvels as Hamilton, Aladdin, Wicked, The Lion King, and many more. As recent hits like Frozen and Mean Girls go on tour, there is no doubt that Pantages Hollywood will be involved with all the major shows. Look for Hamilton to return to Los Angeles as well at least a few more times if not several. Don't forget about The Book of Mormon at Pantages and perhaps newer shows like Hadestown come to Los Angeles and Harry Potter LA.
Shake Shack
Shake Shack is primarily a fast food joint, but the quality of their products is just impeccable. The franchise started out with a simple hot dog stand next to the Madison Square Garden and now they're creating some of the top burgers you can find in town. Their place is just really chic and modern and have a highly diversified menu; well, as diversified as a burger joint can be. They have amazing stuff for meat lovers and also vegetarian burgers for vegan folks. Overall, a lunch, or even a dinner at this fabulous place would definitely be the highlight on anyone's week.
Kitchen24
Kitchen24 has a specialty and they know pretty well how to exploit it. The folks there really pride themselves on the fact that they only use fresh ingredients. Every single component in the dishes of their menu is 100% fresh. And, they're not really novices at what they do. The restaurant has been around for quite a long time. The venue for Kitchen24 was originally a jazz club back in the 17th century so there's a rich history on the location of the restaurant. The thing is that Kitchen24 is the type of place you can go to every day. But, at the same time, it's the type of place which doesn’t get old at all.
Katsuya Hollywood
The best thing about Katsuya Hollywood is really how modern and trendy the place is. It's particularly royalty. As soon as you step in, you're enchanted by the number of different dishes on the menu. The décor is just fabulous at the same time, even if you visit for the food, you're going to come back for the décor. Their fish, the crab, the sushi – Every dish is just so perfect. Katsuya Hollywood is truly a place you can refer to as fine dining.
No Jealousy is another spot right across the street from the Pantages Hollywood. Super Smash Buns is also close by. Russia Restaurant is another neat spot to grab a bite, as is th OG Wingz restaurant.
For Mexican food about a block away there is the Sharky’s Woodfried Mexican Grill. Beetie Hous LA is across the street from Sharky’s.
It is also important to make note of the hotels near the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. There is a Hampton Inn nearby which provides enjoyable budget options. The Hotel Hollywood, Hollywood proper Residences, Trylon Hotel Hollywood, W Hollywood, Dream Hollywood, and the Hollywood Guest Inn are all well within a very short walking distance.
Like many famous theatres, Pantages Theatre has undergone a change of theme and has introduced a new show. The drama, "The Lion King" is one of the most popular themes and films ever made and has been translated into a Hollywood premiere. Also starring Zazie Beetz, James Earl Jones, and Neil Patrick Harris.
Because of its popularity in the past, the Hestia theatre has released several shows which have been adapted from history. Movies and television shows with historical characters have been released. If you've never seen a Pantages Theatre shows before, I'll introduce a few facts about the Pantages Theatre.
In the past two decades, the theatre has played a major role in the promotion of Hollywood stars such as Tom Cruise, Christina Ricci, Kevin Spacey, and Selena Gomez. When Hollywood Boulevard was built in Hollywood, a theatre was built in the heart of the Hollywood area, named "The City Center", it was also famous for its playhouse and the theatrical industry.
With history behind the theatre, we can easily see why it is such a popular venue. One of the Pantages Theatre's most famous features is its "Mezzole", where it can showcase two actors playing two different roles at the same time.
This is one way for people to get their minds going when they feel like being taken away from reality by the Hestia Theatre. Both men and women have been shown the door when people started getting bored of playing the same part over again.
As movies became popular and celebrities became the power they are today, many historians began to research the history plays to find out how certain names had been associated with the production. It is a story worth hearing and should not be avoided.
Someof the most well known historical plays that have been held by the theatre include: the Play-In, The Secret River, and Little White Lies. If you are interested in watching these, you can buy tickets online through the website of the theatre.
