Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Based on the story by Thorne, J. K. Rowling and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two part stage play that is written by Jack Thorne. The Play was premiered in the Palace Theatre in London, UK on the 7th of June in the year 2016, with it being officially premiered on the 30th of July, 2016.
Background
In the late 2013, it was speculated that a play based on the story of Harry Potter was in production for almost a year and it would be released in 2016. The play was named Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Some people argued that a follow-up story for Harry Potter would've been much better in the form of a book, but J.K. Rowling suggested that this was the best place to air the story.
History
The story centers around the central characters of the original Harry Potter series and is set nineteen years after the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry is now an employee of the Ministry of Magic and his son, Albus Severus Potter, the second one of three children is about to start his very first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The official summary of the play was released by the publisher, Pottermore, on the 23rd of October, 2015.
Story
As the play opens, the epilogue scene from the final installment is shown. Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley are on the platform nine and three quarters, sending their second child, Albus Severus Potter to the Hogwarts Express which is the train that takes the students to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter is now the Head of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic. Ginny is the editor of the sports section of the Daily Prophet. Ron works with George in managing Weasley's Wizard Wheezes and Hermione is the Minister of Magic. Along with Albus Severus, Ron and Hermione are sending their daughter Rose to Hogwarts as well.
As the new year at Hogwarts starts, Albus, who is sorted into Slytherin, develops a strong bond with Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass. Albus fails to live up to the reputation of his parents and is bullied. As a result of this, he keeps on getting distant from his father, who is unable to understand what is going on with the mind of his son and cannot figure out how to deal with his issues.
Before Albus is going to leave for his fourth year at Hogwarts, he gets into a fight with his father and Harry lets it slip that sometimes he wishes that Albus was not his son. A time turner is found and it is also the time when Harry’s scar starts to hurt again. Amos Diggory asks Harry to use the time turner to go back in time and save Cedric Diggory. He is now old and has a few mental issues and is cared for by his niece, Delphi Diggory. Albus thinks that this is what he should do as a lot of people died for his father and that they do not need to do so. He convinced Scorpius to accompany him in doing so.
They do nothing right and end up creating a lot of mess for the elders and for themselves as well. In the end, both the boys decide to be more active at school and Albus visits Cedric’s grave along with Harry.
