Location

The location of this theatre is 1100 Third Avenue at B-Street in downtown San Diego, California. If you're coming in from the north, you're supposed to take the L.A. Freeway 5 South to Civic Center. There will be an off ramp fork, take the left portion on the ramp which will bring you to third avenue. Turn right on the Second Avenue and continue to drive for the next three blocks. This is where the Second Avenue finishes and your destination will be right in front of you.

If you're coming in from the North County, take the Freeway 15 South to Freeway 163 South right into downtown San Diego. This will bring you to the 10th Avenue. Stay on the road for two blocks, then turn to B- Street which is a one way street heading west. That street will bring you to the Civic Theatre.

History

The San Diego Civic Theatre was built to be a primary place for circus performances. Circuses from all over America thought of San Diego as a pinnacle in their tours just because of how big the theatre was at that time. It was opened in January 1965 and used to host the world's biggest talents in the fields of opera, classical music, dance, comedy and eventually, Broadway. Since it is managed by the City of San Diego, there have been quite a few historical community gathering and political speeches at the venue as well.

Parking

The closest lot to the Civic Center is right beside the venue, Concourse Parkade. It's the venue's own parking lot but there are a lot of other lot's around the place too available at different rates. The place can get pretty busy sometimes, so it might be a good idea to use the public transportation. The San Diego Trolley stops at the nearby City Center on 3rd and C Street. It'll only take a couple minutes of walking to get to the Civic Center.
