The Tabernacle in Atlanta

History

For the past twenty years, The Tabernacle in Atlanta has been one of the most beloved places to go, especially for musical events. It has been a host to countless iconic concerts and spectacular events that have been organize privately. The unique and intimate setting that it has had been something to talk about and can be easily noticed in its history.

The building of the Tabernacle was originally built as a church in the year 1911 and was made into a music venue for the Olympic Games in the year 1996. It now is the most preferred venue for most of the events happening with in the locality and it hosts over 200 events every single year. It is also ranked one of the tip music venues in the country.

Renovations

The building that is now the Tabernacle was constructed to be a church and was referred to as the "Broughton's Tabernacle", although it was never an official name for the church. Due to its success, it was expanded several times to make room for more and more people.

Another location, quite close to the original building was bought, as per the need to accommodate a bigger number of people. The building was designed by an architect by the name Reuben Harrison Hunt.

Ground breaking ceremonies were held for the inauguration of the new building. The seating capacity had gone up from 350 to 1850.

The cornerstone was laid at the end of the bible conference held at the church in the year 1910.

After a lot of effort and renovation, in the 20th century, the church was changed to the “House of Blues”. This was done for the Olympic Ceremonies and was made ready in a short period of time.

Then in 1998, the House of Blues was turned into the Tabernacle, which it has remained every since, hosting some of the biggest concerts in the area.

The Tabernacle is a midsized concert hall that has been a venue for most of the notable acts and some of them have been:

It has the capacity of seating over 2500 people approximately. The venue has seating in the balcony and standing room on the floor with some specific shows having reserved seats on the floor.

There is very little possibility of finding free parking spots around the Tabernacle but a lot of paid parking is available around the venue on either side and across the street as well. The charges for the parking may be $10.00 but it may vary from time to time.
